Sexual weakness or Erectile dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) thus is the inability of a man to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for his sexual needs or the needs of his partner. Erectile dysfunction may sometimes be even termed as "impotence". The term "erectile dysfunction" can mean the inability to achieve erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or the ability to achieve only brief erections.

Age is a risk factor for erectlile dysfunction. Many studies have shown that it is much more likely in a 60 year old as compared with a 40 year old man. Men who lead less healthy lifestyles, eat a less healthy diet, drink more and exercise less are also more prone to suffer from this. Physical exercise tends to lessen the risk of impotence.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is treatable at any age. There are now successful treatments for this disorder which ensures that most men with the problem return to normal sexual activity.

Can Sexual Problems be Prevented? - While sexual problems cannot be prevented, dealing with the underlying causes of the dysfunction can help you better understand and cope with the problem when it occurs. There are some things you can do to help maintain good sexual function:

1. Follow your doctor's treatment plan for any health conditions.
2. Limit your alcohol intake.
3. Quit smoking.
4. Deal with any emotional or psychological issues such as stress, depression, and anxiety.
5. Increase communication with your partner.

Psychological causes
Symptoms of ED
• Old Age
• Decreased Blood Flow
• Diabetes
• High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
• Pelvic Surgery (prostate, bladder, rectal)
• Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis
• Nervous System Disorders
• Hormonal Problems
• Depression and Psychological Problems
• Smoking, Alcohol, Drug Abuse
• The side effects of certain medications
• Peyronie's Disease
These include work-related stress and anxiety, concern about sexual performance, marital or relationship problems, depression, feelings of guilt, and the effects of a past sexual trauma.
The symptom of erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve and maintain an erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse. This condition also may involve problems with emission, ejaculation and orgasm.

• Talk to your partner. This can have an affect on them, too. It is important that your partner understands that you are dealing with impotence. They can help support you and help you deal with the problem. Your partner also needs to know so that there are no misunderstandings in your relationship.

• Experiment with your partner in the bedroom. Instead of focusing on the climax, focus on massage, touch, kissing, and just spending time with each other. Set the mood with some sweet smelling candles and light music.

• Make an appointment with your doctor to discuss medications for impotence.

• Have your testosterone levels checked. This is rare, but it is possible that low testosterone can cause impotence. Symptoms of low testosterone include mood swings, lack of energy, depression, and a decreased libido. If you have any of these symptoms along with impotence (or without) have your testosterone levels tested.

• Quit Smoking and Alcohol Smoking can constrict blood vessels, which can make getting blood down there more difficult. Smoking puts you at risk for atherosclerosis, which can cause impotence. Quit smoking now to reduce your risk and regain normal erections.

When Should I Call My Doctor About a Sexual Problem?
Many men experience a sexual problem from time to time. However, when the problems are persistent, they can cause distress for the man and his partner, and have a negative impact on their relationship. If you consistently experience sexual function problems, see your doctor for evaluation and treatment.
